Biography:

Dr Roby Rakhit was appointed as consultant cardiologist & honorary senior lecturer to the Royal Free Hospital in 2004. He trained at Charing Cross & Westminster medical school and completed his general cardiology training at the Hammersmith, Royal Brompton and St. Marys hospitals.

He completed a 2 year MD thesis at the Rayne Institute, St.Thomas` Hospital on the cellular physiology of nitric oxide in conferring myocardial protection against ischaemia. He was awarded a British Heart Foundation International Fellowship in 2000 to complete an interventional Fellowship at the Swiss Cardiovascular centre, Bern.

He is currently Head of Department of Cardiology at the Royal Free and has contributed significantly to improvements in service development including setting up a 24/7 heart attack centre. His clinical interests include all aspects of general cardiology, cardioembolism and stroke and a specialist interest in interventional cardiology including coronary angioplasty/stenting, and permanent pacing.
