Essentially Medical which was founded towards the end of 2004 by Evelyn Diamond, organises free, Consultant led educational meetings which are held in GP surgeries during the lunch hour or early evening. We recognise that GPs and their colleagues are often unable to find the time to attend meetings in central locations and so we bring the hospital Consultants to the GP. Pharmaceutical or medical equipment companies are invited to sponsor these educational sessions.
THE ESSENTIALLY MEDICAL LUNCH AND LEARN PROGRAMME
Continuing Medical Education has been defined by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges as:
"A continuing process, outside formal undergraduate and postgraduate training, that allows individual doctors to maintain and improve standards of medical practice through the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviour."
